There are many essential oils out there that are great for your hair, skin, and scalp. If you’re looking to add new flavors and scents, here are some rich oils that will pamper up your shelves, locs and looks.
Chamomile Oil
The bisabolol and chamazulene found in German Chamomile oil is known for its anti-inflammatory effects, which is why many herbalists use Chamomile oil to treat skin ailments like boils, bee stings, and bruises. Most notably is Chamomile’s effects on dry itchy scalps. The oil is known for calming and conditioning dry itchy scalp caused by skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis. For immediate relief, add a few drops of chamomile to a carrier oil, like jojoba oil or vitamin E oil, massage directly into scalp, and rinse out 20 minutes later.
Carrot Seed Oil
Carrot Seed Oil is especially desirable because of its Biotin and it’s Betacarotenos. These two fancy features aid in strong, healthy hair growth, and is highly recommended for anyone who is just starting out on their loc journey. This essential oil is also used to prevent premature graying, will hydrate locs, and therefore reduce frizz caused by dry, brittle hair textures.
Abyssinian Oil
Native to the Ethiopian highlands, the Abyssinian plant, which is where the oil is extracted from, is also known as Crambe Seed Oil. The oil is high in Linoleic Acids, an omega 3 fatty acid known to regenerate skin cells, which leaves the skin feeling smooth and youthful. Abyssinian oil is great for moisturizing locs, while it is a non-greasy, easily absorbed oil, that will naturally moisturize dry locs and scalp. Although, it should be noted, many utilize Abyssinian oil to naturally detangle hair, so use this beautiful oil sparingly, unless of course you are rocking loose hair, then you can go all out. As far as your skin goes, this essential oil can also be used as a carrier oil, with say, Chamomile Oil, as mentioned above.
Ylang Ylang Oil
Ylang Ylang oil comes from the perfume flowers of the Cananga tree, which is a native tree to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The oils are commonly used in hair care and skin products because it aids in hair loss when massaged into the scalp and is often used as a natural conditioning agent for dry brittle hair. Ylang Ylang stimulates sebum production in the scalp, which is why it makes for a great hot oil treatment if you’re up for one this month!
Rose Oil
Rose oil is extracted through the steam distillation of fresh Damascus Rose, sounds dainty doesn't it? This lovely oil has heaps of benefits from treating wounds, depression, to its aphrodisiac advantages, enough said, or is it? It’s astringent properties strengthens roots, which prevents hair loss, and protects against the development of wrinkles. Rose oil can be used as an air freshener around the house, to lift the mood and scent, can be used in your loc care treatment, added to your relaxing bath hour, or a part of your moisturizing routine.
