How to Know if You Are Ready for Locs

How to Know if You Are Ready for Locs

Considering locs?

For many, locs are not just a hairstyle, but a lifestyle. Not only because of what locs may represent to oneself, but also because of the special maintenance routine that comes with locs. For many, they consider locs to be a low maintenance hairstyle, though that all depends on how you want your locs to look and which loc style you decide to go for.

What can I do if I’m considering locs, but am still not sure if locs are right for me?

If you’re considering locs, but still not 100% sold on the idea, you could practice with different protective styles like braids or goddess locs. You can see if it's something you like, if you like the style, the way it looks and the way it feels. You can try it for years to really see if you’re ready for it. We see people doing that all the time. But that doesn’t have to be your route, it’s just something we see people do.

What do we recommend?

We recommend having a close look at your lifestyle, your job, habits and your surrounding environment. Try to discern whether or not locs will be beneficial for your day-to-today lifestyle, as in the things you do, the way your routine works, both morning and night.

We also want you to explore the reasons why you want locs, and really decide if you think locs fit for you and your look. Please do not base your decision to have locs based on what it looks like on someone else. Decide if locs are real and right for you. Only you can make that decision.

And there’s more…

Your patience level is key when it comes to locs. Traditionally, it will take time to get to where you want to be. Locs are a process. They are not instantaneous, and you have to be ready to go through that process.

Are you ready for the journey?
